9:30 – 10:30 CLINIC 1: ARTISTRY, EXPRESSIVITY, & TONE COLOR — HOW DO

Exploring artistry, expressivity, and tone color through listening to
recordings, examining scores, and singing selected examples from standard
choral literature, and address the following questions:
• How do we, as choral singers, convey artistry and emotion in music?
• What is the music telling us? What is the composer showing us on the
page?
• How do I, as an individual choral singer, make it happen within a group?
• How is this tied to pronunciation of text, good singing technique (tone
color, breathing, singing a dynamic piano and an unforced forte, for
example), listening skills, even our body language and movement?
10:45 – 11:45 CLINIC 2: - JESU, MEINE FREUDE AND BACH’S SECRET
LANGUAGE—MORE THAN MEETS THE EAR!
An interactive guided tour through the motet Jesu, meine Freude. Discover
the secret symbolism of musical form, tonal relationships, voicings, and
symmetrical placement of movements, motivic relationships, word painting,
and more, that will open your eyes to the fascinating world of Bach’s
hidden metaphorical language.
